November 25, 2024 – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

The bioengineering community of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineers stands against violence against women. This stance is supported not only by the MeDSP lab but also by our colleagues at DEALAB and the entire bioengineering team.

On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we wore a red stripe we built together in the lab, and the same was applied to the door and inside the lab. It is a symbol to declare our stance against any form of violence, both physical and psychological, against disrespect, and discrimination. Men and women are different, and in respectful difference lies our strength. Our lab is proud of the significant presence of women in our team. Women have the skills, intellect, and heart to change the world, innovate, and make a difference. We believe that true success comes from teamwork and mutual respect.

One year ago we mourned the tragic loss of Giulia Cecchettin, a biomedical engineering student who was just graduating in Padova. We grieved for this senseless death that took such a young life from the world, leaving it darker in the absence of her light. Our red stripe will remain until the end of the year, and likely beyond, as our commitment to this cause does not end today. We owe this to our colleague Giulia Cecchettin and to all other victims of men’s violence, whether living or deceased. Never again, no one more.
