Ni-P alloys

Nickel based nanocrystalline materials – synthesis, properties and characterization

NiP alloys exhibit excellent functional properties: good corrosion resistance, high hardness and wear resistance as well as electrical, magnetic and catalytic properties. They can be prepared by different techniques. It is generally accepted that the crystallographic structure of NiP alloys is mainly influenced by the amount of P present in the alloy, an amorphous or nanocrystalline structure is obtained at P contents higher than 14 at%.

XPS and EDX study on re-crystallization of Ni-P alloys:  changes in the shape and intensity of the shake-up satellite associated with the main peak can be observed (see figure). This can be interpreted….  More...

Effect of phosphorus content on the electronic structure of the Ni-P alloys. A systematic increase of the binding energy distance of the Ni2p main peak and its satellite is found. This can be interpreted….  More...

The high corrosion resistance of electroless deposited nano-crystalline Ni19P is not due to the “oxide” passivity but governed by a diffusion controlled process.    More ….

An XPS/XAES study shows that phosphorus is present in three different chemical states. The mechanism of corrosion resistance of NiP alloys can be explained by the enrichment of a P rich layer . More…
