The METATwin project aims to investigate the security and privacy threats in the Metaverse focusing on authentication & access control, data management and interoperability, as well as privacy aspects. The state-of-the-art security and privacy countermeasures in both Academia and Industry will be investigated and their feasibility toward building a secure and privacy-preserving Metaverse will be discussed. Critical challenges will be outlined and innovative technological solutions will be proposed. Finally, in order to validate results in socially-relevant use-cases a metaverse-based Proof-of-Concept (PoC) will be developed. The METATwin project team has been selected to bring together the skills and expertise necessary to address the emerging challenges of Metaverse from different engineering perspectives.
