    GOAL OF THE COURSE

The Internet of Things (IoT) has become a reality with billions of devices able to send information about the physical world and implement simple actions, leading to the paradigm of anytime and anywhere connectivity for anything. Managing industrial production, logistics, and smart building are just a few areas where new applications have improved thanks to the massive amount of data flowing through the IoT. In such scenarios, IoT is developing toward an object-object interaction model where the devices seek out other objects to deliver composite services for human benefit. Understanding how the IoT devices in the system can automatically process any other object’s information is crucial when using such an interaction model.

In this context, the course aims to study the importance of trust in the IoT, analysing the most well-known attacks that can disrupt an IoT ecosystem and the impact of errors. A real IoT scenario is then simulated and tested using one of the leading public cloud computing platforms, in specific Microsoft Azure, and a first trust management approach is uploaded on the cloud to identify and understand which, among the nodes in the IoT network, are trustworthy and can then lead to successful collaborations.

    REQUIREMENTS

The student must have appropriate knowledge of the architectures for telecommunication networks and Internet protocols, with particular reference to the TCP/IP protocol suite. Not necessary, but recommended knowledge: web services and application development.
