Liana Fattore

Liana Fattore is Senior Researcher at the Institute of Neuroscience, National Research Council (CR) of Italy, where is leading the CNR laboratory of Behavioral Neuropharmacology. Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Cambridge (UK) in 2001-2002, she received her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Cagliari in 2003, and has been President of the Mediterranean Neuroscience Society (MNS) from 2017 to 2019. More recently, Dr. Fattore has been Marie-Curie Fellow at the Universitat Jaume I (UJI), Castellón de la Plana (ES) in 2023, at the Neurocampus University of Bordeaux (FR) in 2024, and at CNRS-IPMC, Université Côte d’Azur, Valbonne (FR) in 2025.


Her research activity focuses primarily on the neurobiology of addictive disorders, with special attention given to sex-dependent differences, and involves the use of animal models and behavioral testing to understand how drugs of abuse, including NPS, may impact on brain functioning and alter emotional states and behavioral responses. Her research includes the study of the potential risk factors that may enhance vulnerability to addiction, like the genetic background, age, sex but also levels of steroid hormones and psychiatric comorbidity.
Dr. Fattore is author of >100 peer-reviewed publications, Editor for the British Journal of Pharmacology (BJP), Specialty Chief Editor for Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience (Section: Motivation and Reward) and Associate Editor for Frontiers in Psychiatry (Section: Addictive Disorders). Member of the Evaluation Committee Panel, Research Executive Agency of the European Commission (Horizon 2020), Dr. Fattore serves as reviewers for 12 International Journals and as Expert Evaluator of Research Project Proposals for several National Agencies and Banking Foundations.
