Alejandro Higuera Matas

Alejandro Higuera graduated from the University of Granada in 2003 with a degree in Psychology and then obtained his Ph.D. in Psychobiology from the National University for Distance Learning (UNED) in Madrid (2008). He spent two years as a post-doc research at the Department of Pharmacology of the Complutense University in Madrid. He is now Associate Professor of Psychobiology at UNED where he is the Principal Investigator of the PsychoBioPathology research group. Dr. Higuera-Matas has been a visiting scientist at the National Institute for Medical Research in London (UK), the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York (USA), the Scripps Research Institute in the Florida (USA) and the University of Cambridge (UK). He has published 48 research papers on addiction neuroscience and related topics, directed 7 doctoral thesis and has been Principal Investigator or collaborator in more than 20 research projects including the EU-funded JUSTSO (Analysis, knowledge dissemination, justice implementation and special testing of novel synthetic opioids).
