Professor (Pharmacy) and MPharm Programme Director, Swansea University
Professor Guirguis is a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber and an internationally renowned researcher in substance misuse. Her pioneering work includes establishing the UK’s first Home Office-licensed drug checking service in community services. With over 100 peer-reviewed publications, she has made extensive contributions to advancing pharmacy practice and harm reduction. As a member of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs and an expert witness in court, she plays a pivotal role in shaping UK drug policy.
As the RPS’s Chief Scientist, her role focusses on advancing the national pharmacy science and research strategy, and raising awareness of how science and research drive the development and use of medicines, supporting the continued advancement of pharmacy practice.
Her service on the Fitness to Practise Committee and Accreditation Panel for both pharmacy regulators, the General Pharmaceutical Council and the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland, further reflects her deep commitment to advancing education and research, professional standards, and public health across Wales and the UK.
