Within the Federal University of Santa Catarina, the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering is one of the leading research programs in the field of environmental engineering. Housed in the university’s technological and engineering environment, it offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees and plays a strategic role in advancing scientific research, innovation, and high-level training to address environmental challenges at regional, national, and global scales.

⚙️ The Solid Waste Laboratory (LARESO) is a research laboratory at the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina dedicated to the development of technological solutions for solid waste management and resource recovery. Its activities focus on thermochemical processes, waste valorization, environmental assessment, and the production of value-added materials from biomass and organic residues. Within this framework, LARESO has investigated hydrochar as a promising material produced through hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of wet biomass, such as sewage sludge and agro-industrial residues.
