🔬 Group Overview

Working within the Future Energy Center research environment at the Department of Engineering Sciences at Mälardalen University, our research unit on accelerating sustainable shifts in sludge treatment (ASSiST) works with emerging sludge and organic waste treatment technologies like HTC through experimentation, wet chemical analysis, process modeling, and systems assessments to improve decision making for investments in future treatment systems. Our goals are to improve resource recovery, material handling, and decontamination in applicable systems. Contact us if you would like to work together to better understand and evaluate these promising technologies.

⚙️
We have a 5-liter HTC reactor with the capacity for multivariate analysis of feedstock, hydrochar, and process water, including downstream testing of plant growth and soil response, anaerobic digestion (BMP and semi-continuous systems), and membrane filtration. We work with sewage sludge digestate, primary and waste activated sludge, horse manure, and are interested in working with other similar systems like grey and blackwater sludge, manure management systems etc.
