Rossi, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy investigation of X60 steel, Surface Science Spectra 31 (2024) 024014. doi:<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1116\/6.0003972\">10.1116\/6.0003972<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>X60 API 5L is one of the typical medium to high strength pipeline steels of the oil and gas industry that might be used in the future for green hydrogen storage and transportation.&nbsp;It&#8217;s surface characterization by XPS was performed in the framework of the e.INS spoke 7 project \u201c<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.unica.it\/superfici\/e-ins-spoke-7-low-carbon-technologies\/\">Study of hydrogen permeation barriers&nbsp;&nbsp;for the safe storage and transport of green hydrogen<\/a><\/strong>\u201d in order to know the materials surface before applying hydrogen permeation barriers (HPB). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:40% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"928\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.unica.it\/superfici\/files\/2025\/09\/Fe2p_SSS-1024x928.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-689 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.unica.it\/superfici\/files\/2025\/09\/Fe2p_SSS-1024x928.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.unica.it\/superfici\/files\/2025\/09\/Fe2p_SSS-300x272.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.unica.it\/superfici\/files\/2025\/09\/Fe2p_SSS-768x696.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.unica.it\/superfici\/files\/2025\/09\/Fe2p_SSS-1536x1392.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/sites.unica.it\/superfici\/files\/2025\/09\/Fe2p_SSS.jpg 1838w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><strong>Iron Fe2p high resolution spectra<\/strong> of X60 API 5L steel after cleaning in five solvents.  The Fe 2p spectrum consists of a Fe 2p<sub>3\/2<\/sub> and Fe 2p<sub>1\/2<\/sub> doublet due spin\u2013orbit coupling. The Fe 2p<sub>3\/2<\/sub> signal shows three peaks located at <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>(1) at 706.9 eV that corresponds to metallic iron Fe(0)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(2) at 710.6 eV that corresponds to Fe<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>3<\/sub><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(3) at 712.4 eV that corresponds to FeOOH<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Instrument: Thermo Scientific Theta Probe<\/em>, <em>Excitation Source Al K\u03b1 monochromatic<\/em>, <em>Source Energy: 1486.6 eV<\/em>, <em>Source Strength: 100 W<\/em> <em>Source Size: 0.4 \u00c5~ 0.4 mm2<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Publication: R.
