Health Psychology Specialization School of the Department of Pedagogy, Psychology, Philosophy

Benedetta Brandas

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychological Sciences and Techniques (University of Cagliari) with a thesis entitled: “The Role of Epigenetic Regulation in Behavioral Control.”

Subsequently, I graduated with honors and honors from the Master’s program in Developmental Psychology and Socio-Work Processes (University of Cagliari), with an experimental thesis entitled: “Psychophysical Well-Being in Elderly People in the Sardinian “Blue Zone.”

I am undertaking a postgraduate internship year at the Department of Education, Psychology, and Philosophy at the University of Cagliari, with the aim of continuing and deepening the experimental work I began with my master’s thesis.

Specifically, during my internship, I had the opportunity to conduct research on psychological markers of optimal aging in the Sardinian Blue Zone, i.e., areas of Sardinia characterized by a high rate of longevity. This experience allowed me to expand my knowledge of psychophysical well-being in the final decades of life, as well as the assessment of the efficiency of nonverbal cognitive processes (e.g., executive functions) in the elderly population. The research project was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical, Chemical, and Materials Engineering (University of Cagliari). Through this collaboration, a motor assessment of participants was added to the research project, aiming to investigate the relationship between psychophysical health, cognitive efficiency, and motor and sleep parameters among older adults in the Sardinian Blue Zone. Furthermore, part of my internship was dedicated to drafting a literature review, recently accepted for publication by the Italian Journal of Psychology (GIP), focusing on psychological markers of successful aging in the Blue Zones.

Upon completion of my postgraduate internship, I will qualify as a psychologist. I am currently enrolled in the School of Specialization in Health Psychology at the University of Cagliari.
