Silvia Melis
Gerontological psychologist, specializing in Health Psychology, registered with the Order of Psychologists of Sardinia (n. 3474). She began her studies in Psychology after earning a bachelor’s degree in Experimental Biology from the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical, and Natural Sciences at the University of Cagliari. From the same university, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychological Sciences and Techniques with a thesis entitled “The Biological Basis of Attachment. Neuroendocrine Regulation and the Role of the Oxytocinergic System” and a master’s degree with an experimental thesis entitled “Successful Aging. Cognitive Efficiency and Psychological Well-Being in the Final Stages of Life.” During her postgraduate internship, she collaborated on a research study on the bio-psycho-social factors that contribute to Successful Aging, conducted at the Department of Education, Psychology, and Philosophy at the University of Cagliari. She subsequently completed training at the Neurorehabilitation Unit of San Martino Hospital in Oristano, taking part in assessment, rehabilitation, and support activities for people with severe acquired brain injury and their families. She completed a Master’s in Psychology of Aging at the University of Pavia, completing an internship at a Day Center specializing in Alzheimer’s care in Selargius. Her thesis focused on communication and relational care tools for the elderly and those with dementia. She continues her continuing education in the psychology of aging, deepening her knowledge and skills to promote prevention and treatment interventions in the context of healthy and pathological aging. Currently, in collaboration with professionals, groups, organizations, and associations operating in the area, she plans and conducts prevention, rehabilitation, and support interventions for people with cognitive disorders and dementia and their caregivers, and promotes awareness-raising and training initiatives in the field of active aging.
