Biographical Sketch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Marco Martal\u00f2 received the Bachelor (3-year “Laurea” program) and the Master (3+2 year “Laurea Specialistica” program) degree (summa cum laude) in Telecommunications Engineering on September 2003 and December 2005, respectively, from the University of Parma, Italy. On March 2009, he received the Ph.D. degree in Information Technologies from the University of Parma, Italy. From October 2007 to March 2008, he was a “Visiting Scholar” at the School of Computer and Communication Sciences of the Ecole Polytechnique Federale De Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, collaborating with the laboratory of Algorithmic Research in Network Information (ARNI). From January 2009 to April 2012, he was a Post-Doc researcher at the Information Engineering Department (DII) of the University of Parma, Italy. From May 2012 to April 2017, he was an Assistant Professor (non-tenured, RTD-A) at the E-Campus University, Italy. From June 2017 to December 2020, he was a Senior Post-Doc researcher at the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Parma, where he was a member of the IoTLab and the MultimediaLab laboratories. Since December 2020, he is an Associate Professor in Telecommunications at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the University of Cagliari, Italy, where he is a member of the Net4U laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His research interests are in the design of low-complexity communication and distributed signal processing algorithms for wireless systems and networks, with focus on the applications to next-generation communication systems, Internet of Things, and security aspects. As of January 2021, Prof. Martal\u00f2 authored 83 publications and his h-index is equal to 11. He is also inventor of 2 Italian patents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Martal\u00f2 is co-author of the book “Sensor Networks with IEEE 802.15.4 Systems: Distributed Processing, MAC, and Connectivity” edited in 2011 by Springer, Germany. Dr. Martal\u00f2 was a co-recipient of a “best student paper award” (with his tutor Gianluigi Ferrari) at the 2006 International Workshop on Wireless Ad hoc Networks (IWWAN’06). He also won the first prize award, together with the WASNLab team, at the the first Body Sensor Network (BSN) Contest, organized in conjunction with the 2011 Body Sensor Networks (BSN’11) conference. He is member of the Editorial Board of IEEE Access and MDPI Sensors journals and he is moderator for TechRxiv preprint repository. He also serves as TPC member for various international conferences, as well as reviewer for many international journals and conferences. Dr. Martal\u00f2 is an IEEE senior member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
