<strong>2nd Workshop dedicated to hydrochar carbon stability<\/strong>, an open and interactive discussion promoted within the Hydrochar Network and open to anyone interested in advancing knowledge on hydrochar behaviour, carbon persistence, and assessment methodologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From Discussion to Standardization<br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hydrochar Network initiated this workshop series to progressively structure the scientific dialogue on carbon stability:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.unica.it\/hydrochar\/2025\/11\/20\/workshop-assessment-of-roadmap-progress-towards-a-common-experimental-protocol-for-testing-the-carbon-stability-of-hydrochar\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"581\">1st Workshop<\/a> (2025):<\/strong> focused on various aspects of carbon stability testing, highlighting methodological diversity, analytical approaches, and current challenges across research groups.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2nd Workshop (2026):<\/strong> dedicated to building a <strong>shared standard protocol for testing carbon stability of dried hydrochars under abiotic conditions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This second edition represents a concrete step toward harmonization and methodological convergence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Focus of this edition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Co-developing a draft protocol (dry hydrochar &#8211; abiotic conditions)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During this workshop, the HTC team will present a <strong>draft standard experimental protocol<\/strong> for assessing carbon stability of <strong>dried hydrochars under abiotic conditions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The draft protocol has been developed based on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>insights collected during the first workshop, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a critical review of the current scientific literature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Following registration, participants will receive the draft protocol in advance<\/strong>, allowing them to review it prior to the workshop and come prepared with comments, suggestions, and questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The objective of this session is not only to present the draft, but to <strong>collectively refine and complete it<\/strong>, moving toward a technically robust and shared methodological framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Discussion Points<br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In particular, this session will focus on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>which parameters should be measured\/assessed<\/strong> to characterize carbon stability on dry hydrochar,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how to define <strong>minimum vs. recommended<\/strong> measurements,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>methodological choices (e.g., incubation conditions, analytical workflow, reporting), and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>key open issues (e.g., reproducibility, inter-lab comparability, reference materials).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The overarching goal is to transition from methodological heterogeneity toward a structured and reproducible testing approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who Should Join<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop is open to <strong>researchers, PhD students, laboratory technicians, companies, and anyone working (or wishing to work) on hydrochar, HTC, and carbon stability<\/strong>.<br>The meeting will be <strong>informal and discussion-driven<\/strong>, encouraging open exchange of data, ideas, and perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Participation<\/strong> Details<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The
