My work with hydrothermal carbonization started back in 1997 when I started using subcritical water to remediate contaminated soil as part of my Ph.D. studies. In the following years, I investigated the hydrothermal carbonization of various biomass for the production of hydrochars, focussing on their properties as fuels, as substrates in catalysis and as soil amendments. My focus is hydrochar rather than the HTC wastewater, however I am interested to collaborate with groups towards the valorization of both products in novel applications. I prefer to use biomass of Mediterranean interest, however occasionally I have used agricultural residues not so common in the Med region, such as bamboo and rice husk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
