The research primarily focuses on reducing nonpoint source pollution and improving water quality, managing nutrient loss, mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, and boosting crop production. This includes the use of thermally and hydrothermally processed char, specifically biochar and hydrochar. Prof. Jeong&#8217;s team is investigating the effects of pelletized biochar and hydrochar combined with fertilizers as a slow-release solution to enhance nutrient use efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the research examines the transport of salts influenced by biochar and hydrochar application, the impact on hydraulic water content following hydrochar use, and the alterations in soil enzyme activity. The projects undertaken by the Soil and Water Management Laboratory receive funding support from the Federal USDA, NRCS, NSF, and the Louisiana Commodity Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><div class=\"table-responsive\"><table class=\"table  table-striped table-bordered table-hover\"  class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td>\u2699\ufe0f<br>The Soil and Water Management Laboratory led by Dr. Jeong at the Red River Research Station, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, is fully equipped and able to carry out various chemical, physical, and mineralogical procedures. The laboratory has a HTC Reactor system, GC\/FID\/ECD for CO<sub>2<\/sub>, CH<sub>4<\/sub>, and N<sub>2<\/sub>O analysis, GC-MS, HPLC, CN Analyzer, LaChat Auto Analyzer, and UV-vis spectroscopy, centrifuges, in-situ multi-probe sonde, EC meters, and pH meters. Adequate storage, preparation, and laboratory space are also available. The Red River Research Station, Louisiana State University has 500 acres of research farm and a full scale of greenhouse for Tomato production. The analysis of climatological variables, soil moisture, irrigation, energy, and other data will be completed using laptop computers available from the LSU Agricultural Center.
