The project adopts a multi-layer strategic approach, with the involvement of the local stakeholders, in order to ensure that the results of the project activities will have a multiplicative effect at the Mediterranean Basin level, in terms of outcomes replication, dissemination and transferability of results both beyond the partnership and after the end of the Project.
The Specific Objective of the Project is to transfer the know how in the solar energy innovative field, to implement and promote a shared design methodology and to promote Solar Energy innovative technologies at civil society level.

Context

The Mediterranean region is characterized by the significant potential of solar energy. The sunlight time ranges from 2650 to 3400 hours per year with average radiation going up to 3200 kWh/m2 per year. In 2007 the European Council adopted an ambitious energy and climate change objectives for 2020 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20%, rising to 30% if the conditions are right, to increase the share of renewable energy to 20%, and to make a 20% improvement in energy efficiency. This strategy is addressed both to the EU State Members and to the Neighboring Countries. In particular, among the different renewable energy technologies, solar-related technologies have a special relevance in the Mediterranean region, which is one of the best locations in the world for the implementation of solar technologies as it is characterized by excellent solar conditions. Despite the favorable weather conditions, the development of solar energy in the Mediterranean area is still limited by technical, institutional, financial and market barriers. Important issues in the field of solar energy have not yet been sufficiently addressed at regional level and cross-border strategic approach is required within the Mediterranean area.

Expected results

• Cultural and normative barriers, design and technical gap that can delay the diffusion of solar technologies identified through comprehensive context analysis
• Solar technologies and its technological trends promoted
• Local legislations on solar energy compared and common innovation proposals defined
• Design, architectural integration and installation competences transferred
• Solar energy consumption increased in 5 public buildings through 85 kWp of photovoltaic panels installed

Work pachages

The duration of FOSTEr in MED Project is 36 months and the work plan of the project is composed of seven work packages (groups of activities)

Management and Coordination

Communication

Capitalisation of the results

Context analysis (See more)

Territorial animation (See more)

Competences transfer (See more)

Pilot Projects (See more)

See more…. Project Results

Fostering Solar Technology in the Mediterranean Area The project at a Glance: Switch on cooperation!
