Abstract: “In this presentation, I discuss several key moments in the intellectual biography of Richard Wollheim (1923–2003), philosopher of art and psychoanalytic thinker. I focus on his involvement in London’s postwar psychoanalytic community, a decisive context for understanding the formation of his aesthetic, moral, and political positions. Building on this milieu, alongside other episodes from his life, I show how a “minimalist moral psychology” takes shape in Wollheim’s work: a thin yet significant link between psyche and community, grounded in early dependence on others and in the mechanisms of projection and introjection. The expression “minimalist moral psychology,” coined by Bernard Williams, is especially apt for Wollheim’s trajectory, which brings together aesthetics, ethics, and psychoanalysis.”
